A COUNTRY CALLED HOME is a compelling coming of age story with universal appeal because it deals with trials and trepidations that most people experience in one way or another, no matter who they are or where they are from. The story incorporates the views of people from all walks of life; different generations, different places, and different socio-economic backdrops. Hence main character, Ellie’s, journey of growth and forgiveness is grounded in a rich and multifaceted setting. Her story was inspired by director/writer Anna Axster’s travels and observations throughout the United States with her musician husband, Ryan Bingham.
Anna Axster: As a writer, director, and producer, Anna Axster has been making films and music videos for more than 10 years. Many of Anna's projects have screened in festivals around the world, and have been viewed more than 2.5 million times online.
Imogen Poots: Having worked with such filmmakers as Steven Soderbergh, Terrence Malick, Richard Linklater, Michael Winterbottom, and Peter Bogdanovich, as well as having starred alongside such actors as Cate Blanchett, Christian Bale, and Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Imogen is quickly becoming one of the most exciting actresses in film today. Imogen first burst onto the scene in Fox’s 28 WEEKS LATER for director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, which was then followed-up with her starring turn in the critically acclaimed MISS AUSTEN REGRETS for BBC Films.
Mackenzie Davis: Mackenzie Davis is a critically acclaimed Canadian actress who, as a relative newcomer to Hollywood, is already garnering the respect of the industry and the public alike. Some of her past film credits include:THAT AWKWARD MOMENT in which she stars opposite Zac Efron and Miles Teller, as well as WHAT IF where she can be seen alongside Daniel Radcliffe, Zoe Kazan, and Adam Driver. Mackenzie is also one of the main leads in AMC’s new tech drama HALT AND CATCH FIRE.
Ryan Bingham: Singer/songwriter, Ryan Bingham, has released four full-length albums, several of which have been in the Top 10 positions on the Billboard charts. He has won an Oscar, Grammy, Golden Globe, and was named Artist of the Year by the American Music Association in 2010.
Nicolas Gonda: Gonda has worked in independent film production and distribution for more than 10 years. He co-produced the Oscar nominated film THE TREE OF LIFE and has continued as a producer on all four of Terrence Malick’s feature films since that time. Gonda is also co-founder and CEO of TUGG, Inc., an innovative crowdsource distribution platform.
Alec Jhangiani: Jhangiani graduated with a degree in Philosophy from the University of Texas at Austin and has been working in independent film since 2006. He joined the Lone Star Film Society in 2007 as director of programming and was appointed director in 2011. He is a founding member of the Lone Star Film Festival (LSFF), ranked among the Top 25 of MovieMaker Magazine's Top 50 Festivals Worth the Entry Fee out of 5,000 festivals world wide. Alec worked in casting and the art department on Terrence Malick’s THE TREE OF LIFE, and was a production consultant on Malick’s TO THE WONDER. He produced James Johnston’s short film KNIFE, an official selection of the 2012 SXSW film festival; Daniel Tarr’s short SHERMAN AND PACIFICO, featuring the voice of Javier Bardem as Pacifico. Jhangiani is also an associate producer on Jesus Beltran's debut feature AMERICANO, developed in part by the Sundance Institute Creative Producing Initiative.
